Stella Prize 2019 – and the winner is…

The Erratics by Vicki Laveau-Harvie is the winner of the 2019 Stella Prize.

Thoughts: I’m so pleased a memoir won (because I love reading memoirs, so ‘yay memoirs’). I’m also glad that it’s a book that’s easy to read and engaging, yet is challenging and will spark debate.

I picked The Erratics for my book group this month (we meet next week) – I hope they all thank me for putting them ahead of the curve. I selected it because there’s SO MUCH material for book groups to discuss. And quite frankly, I need to debrief and book group is a convenient form of therapy…

You can read Laveau-Harvie’s acceptance speech here. I’m going to hear her speak next week and I’m keen to see whether my opinion of her book, and her experience, changes.
