Ta da! The 2016 Stella Prize shortlist has been announced.

  • Six Bedrooms by Tegan Bennett Daylight
  • Hope Farm by Peggy Frew
  • A Few Days in the Country: and other stories by Elizabeth Harrower
  • The World Without Us by Mireille Juchau
  • The Natural Way of Things by Charlotte Wood
  • Small Acts of Disappearance: Essays on Hunger by Fiona Wright

So I picked four of the six. Not bad, right?

Today I buy the Frew, Harrower, Juchau and the Wright in preparation for the Stella Prize Shortlist Reading Group. I already have the Daylight and I’ve read the winner* Wood.

  1. Hope Farm sounds excellent, as does The Natural Way of Things (neither of which are available here, of course). Also, the proposed US cover of Wood’s novel is rather grisly, yours is much better (maybe I’ll change my opinion post-read).

    • Must admit that I’m a bit lukewarm about Hope Farm, only because I didn’t love her first book – hope this one changed my mind.
I’m always fascinated by the differences between book covers in different countries. The Australian cover for Wood’s book is spectacular – a bouquet of flowers, handcuffs and dead animals – so can’t wait to see what they do in the US.
