Do you start singing a certain Kenny Loggins hit when you hear the words ‘comfort zone’? I do. Even though comfort and danger are pretty much opposites… Anyhoo, my comfort zone is contemporary literature. I don’t stray often but there have been some notable (and excellent) exceptions in the last year or so –
Speculative Fiction
The Natural Way of Things by Charlotte Wood
The Beautiful Bureaucrat by Helen Phillips
I’m Starved for You by Margaret Atwood
Historical Fiction
Vanessa and Her Sister by Priya Parmar
Rush Oh! by Shirley Barrett
True Crime
This House of Grief by Helen Garner
Magic Realism
The Portable Veblen by Elizabeth McKenzie
Memoir
Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen
Gothic
The Engagement by Chloe Hooper (okay, I read this ages ago but scenes still stick in my mind…)
YA
Butterfly by Sonya Hartnett (another I read years ago but I’ve included it because it is very, very good)
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Some great reads here, but I’m mesmerised by the picture of Kenny Loggins 😀 I’m now off to google ‘whatever happened to…’
Google that and you really will be straying into the danger zone…
The main piece if information I’ve taken away is that he was married to his colonic therapist…
Good grief.
Ah. Kenny Loggins. Wonderful! (Good book list too btw!)
It’s a superb pic.
🙂
Fun list! I hadn’t heard of many of these titles. Will have to add to my TBR stack. 🙂 Here’s my list: TTT
I now feel like I need to watch Top Gun and/or Footloose tonight.
Any old reason will do.
I’m glad to hear you liked Rush Oh! A copy just arrived in the mail and I liked the look of it. 🙂
Enjoy. It’s a superb book and Barrett has a wonderfully light touch.
Lots of interesting books for the wishlist on your list! But I really you had me at the picture of Kenny Loggins.
Um, i shall show my ignorance or is it my age – I have no clue who Kenny Loggins is….
Ha! His most notable achievement (?!) was the song Danger Zone which was the hit off the Top Gun soundtrack (way back in the eighties). I’m showing my age now…
